UFO, Curling Stone, and a Pizza Place

Circa 1979 or 80 Corner of what is now Shirley Avenue and Mountain Road.

Affectionately referred to as “The Pizza Saucer” this unique fiberglass building turned quite a few heads on Mountain Road in the 70s and 80s. Its current whereabouts are unknown, but it is believed that the structure was constructed by Earl Davison, who also created the flying saucer in Rainbow Valley.

It started as a very unique Pizza restaurant that some say was part of a publicity stunt with local radio station CKCW.

In 1980 it served as the headquarters for the Air Canada Silver Broom Men’s World Curling Championship that was hosted in Moncton with a handle added to the top to make it resemble a curling stone.

It was eventually moved to Riverview and served as a video store and sub shop before being put up for sale, and then one day was it was gone as though it vanished in the night.

Here’s a photo of the one from rainbow valley, for a reference. The more noticeable difference is in the windows.
